Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Family planning is a critical aspect of public health, influencing maternal and child health, economic stability, and population growth. Media campaigns are a central strategy for disseminating information about family planning, offering educational content, debunking myths, and promoting the benefits of contraceptive use (Abubakar & Hassan, 2024). In Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, where cultural and religious factors may influence perceptions of family planning, the role of media campaigns becomes even more significant. Radio, television, and social media platforms are employed to create awareness and encourage acceptance of family planning methods, contributing to healthier communities. This study examines the effectiveness of media campaigns in promoting family planning in Damaturu, evaluating their reach, impact, and challenges.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of media campaigns promoting family planning, many communities in Damaturu face challenges such as low contraceptive uptake, limited awareness, and misconceptions about family planning methods. These barriers often stem from inadequate communication strategies or the inability of campaigns to address cultural and religious concerns effectively. Additionally, there is limited research on the specific impact of media campaigns in Damaturu, making it difficult to assess their success and identify areas for improvement. This study aims to fill this gap by evaluating the effectiveness of media campaigns in promoting family planning in the area (Kasim & Musa, 2025).
